PARENTS
Kathy Farmer
My Mom, Kathy Farmer, was born on January 14, 1969. For most of her child life, according to her, she lived on a farm in rural Hanover county. Because of this, and fact that her father was a successful patenter and garnered a good bit of money from it, she grew up in a life of simplicity and honest work for honest pay. These principles propelled her to success at UVA, and while there, to my father. After working in urban planning for a few years, she left work when I was born. Ever since, she has been a stay-at home mom and my father's secretary.

Event #2: Graduation from UVA: Jan. 4, 1988
After going to UVA and eventually the Architecture school, my mom graduated from UVA. This is also important because, while at UVA, she met my eventual dad. They dated during much of her 2nd and 3rd year at the school.

Outside Event #1: The fall of the Berlin Wall: November 9, 1989
For both of my parents, my mom especially, this was a major event. My parents had always wanted to visit Germany, as my father was (and still is) a big history nut. Both had been to France, Great Britain, etc, yet the eastern bloc had prevented them from seeing Eastern Europe and the eastern parts of Germany. This really changed when the wall fell in 1989, and about 7 years later, my parents made their first trip to the relatively-recently unified country.
Outside Event #2: September 11 Attacks, 9/11/01
One of the biggest events for many Americans at the time, my mom included, was the 9/11 attacks. Unlike some, she can't accurately recall when she heard the news, but she certainly recalled the reaction. The news spread like wildfire, and occurred right when we had moved into our current home. As one may have expected, this, compounded with a new house and a second child, made times tough for my mom, and the state of national emergency that ensued really mirrored her life at the time.
